Niagara Falls c 1997 Original Painting
This painting captures the timeless power of Niagara Falls through the lens of memory and impression. Based on a photo taken by my mom 1997, the piece reinterprets the American Falls with expressive brushwork and a softened palette, blending realism with atmospheric depth. The cascade roars over the rocky ledge, dissolving into mist and foam, while lush foliage frames the scene in vibrant greens. The trees in the foreground offer a sense of intimacy and scale, anchoring the viewer in a moment both personal and monumental.
This original painting measures 14×18 and is on 1/8 inch board rendered in acrylic paints. It has been sealed with satin varnish. Fore best results, frame without glass.
About Niagara Falls:
Niagara Falls formed over 12,000 years ago at the end of the last Ice Age, when melting glaciers released torrents of water that carved through the Niagara Escarpment. The falls straddle the border between Ontario, Canada, and New York, USA, and consist of three sections: Horseshoe Falls, American Falls, and Bridal Veil Falls. Indigenous peoples, including the Chonnonton and later the Haudenosaunee and Anishinaabek, revered the falls as a sacred natural feature. European explorers arrived in the 17th century, and by the 19th century, Niagara had become a hub for tourism, hydroelectric innovation, and daredevil feats.
Today, Niagara Falls remains one of North America’s most iconic natural wonders—a symbol of geological power, cultural heritage, and environmental beauty. This painting, rooted in a 1997 snapshot, bridges past and present, offering a personal tribute to a place that continues to shape memory and imagination.
